KAFA Shorts: A Midsummer’s Fantasia

Scissors

In a peaceful barbershop, master sergeant Kim, the barber, starts telling his friends the story of the scissors hanging on the wall.

The Distance Between Us

Seondeok Arts High School implements a “moral distance rule” that prohibits physical contact between boys and girls. As a result, the school recommends that Byung-chan and Seo-hyun, who have been dating for 700 days, transfer to another school.

The film focuses on the conflicts and prejudices that arise from the moral distance rule, rather than on the personal growth of the characters. It reminds us that no two people are the same, and that wearing the same uniform does not make everyone equal. The film may have intended to convey the strength of Byung-chan and Seo-hyun’s love through the difficulties and conflicts they face; In the end, the film delivers a message that in times of conflict, it is important to keep a distance in order to communicate effectively. Perhaps this is the hidden meaning of the moral distance rule.

Giant’ Room

A man moves into a strange room. Despite the owner’s warning, he disregards the sign “Do Not Enter This Door” and enters.

This grotesque and horrid story is perfectly complemented by the setting, characters, and props, that creates a chilling atmosphere. But perhaps the creepiest thing of all is the infinite fetters of addiction, as depicted in the film.

Love Glitch

A bride-to-be wants to erase her future husband’s memories of his ex-girlfriend.  On the way to their  wedding ceremony, she manages to infiltrate his mind.  She knows she has opened Pandora’s box, but hopes that she has found the only key to fully understand him.  The film, presented in a unique spy movie style, explores the love and insecurity of a bride on the verge of marriage.

Hz

A high school girl who experiences auditory hallucinations meets a man with the same affliction. The two decide to follow the sound, but their journey leads them to more questions than answers. The film explores the fundamental desires of human beings and the complex emotions we feel towards those who are different from us.
